
Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015
In search of good design and innovations
Since the beginning of November the registration phase for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 has been running. The competition, which origins date back to 1954, is one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design competitions. Manufacturers and designers from more than 75 countries take part. Chosen by an independent and renowned jury, the award increases the visibility of designers and companies, brands and products. The use of the Red Dot label is exclusively reserved for the winners of the competition.

Exhibition: Light & Shape
Best of Belgian Design
From 28 October 2014 until 25 January 2015, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents the special exhibition “Light & Shape: Best of Belgian Design”. From ultra-light luggage collection to unusual lamps: the exemplary selection of products from various living environments presents a cross-section of the current Belgian design standard. Touching and testing most of the exhibits is explicitly allowed, since outstanding design quality becomes apparent only in use.

Designs with a story – in the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story”
The American entrepreneur Henry Ford once said: “Every object tells a story, if you know how to read it.” Inspired by this quote, the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story” grants exciting peeks behind the scenes of design and shows how award-winning design is characterised. Until 31 May 2015, visitors of the HKDI Gallery in Hong Kong can experience the exemplarily selection of designs from various living environments and discover what is hidden under the surface.

Taiwanese Design Faces
A special exhibition which focuses on the creative minds behind award-winning designs is presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei from 13 November 2014 – 29 March 2015. “Taiwanese Design Faces” tells stories – about five Taiwanese designers. The presentation introduces the people who create innovative products, convince manufacturers to produce these, and who give advice and support during the whole development process, from the idea to the finished good.

The International Yearbook Communication Design 2014/2015
Every year, the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design are honoured and their works are published in an extensive reference book – for eternity. The two-volume International Yearbook Communication Design 2014/2015 is hot off the press and gives an overview of the status quo of current communication design.

In 2014, the participants and visitors of Red Dot can look back on a year full of emotions, events and successes. More than 16,500 products, projects and works from 78 countries were entered into the three competitions Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. This new record result expresses that the appreciation for excellent design is becoming increasingly important around the world. It also underlines the international acceptance and importance of the award and the Red Dot quality seal.
Red Dot Design Award and Doppio TV partnering up

As of January 2015, the German online TV channel Doppio TV will become an official media partner of the Red Dot Design Award. Doppio TV’s main focus is on upscale stories about: travel, lifestyle, culinary goods, cultural events, economy, sports, automotives and concentrates on the interests of an educated and sophisticated audience.

6,007 euro for the good cause: successful charity auction in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen

On Sunday, 14 December 2014, the fourth edition of the popular charity auction took place in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen. The event, which is traditionally organised in the Advent season, attracted around 120 fans of good design. A very personal design highlight or a well-shaped Christmas present for one’s family or friends: more than 130 pieces went under the hammer, which was again swung by Vito Orazhem. In front of a full house, the managing director of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen auctioned off all of the objects in three hours.
