"The Cube" Hotel in Austria
The fun and sports hotel "The Cube" is entering its second winter season. With its special architecture, the hotel is oriented towards the requirements and wishes of a young generation that is enthusiastic about sports and design.
Dynamics, lifestyle and internationality – "The Cube" represents these characteristics. It opened its gates in February 2004; other locations are planned. The architecture is a modern combination of glass, concrete and light, while the interior design is a successful mix of modern objects and 1960s' elements. The stairs become "gateways"; the rooms with a reduced design are called "cube boxes". Outside of each box a glazed storage room called "showroom" is equipped with a storage system for mountain bikes, snowboards or carving skis and with drying racks for sneakers and an air conditioning system that assures that the sports gear will be dry the next day. Indoor entertainment is offered in the interior, from lounges with video walls and an open fireplace to Playstation and Internet terminals, to the lobby, which also serves as a 24/7 bar.
The building is a concrete skeleton structure, and all non-structural installations are built as modular constructions. The materials were left raw wherever possible. Jesko Hutter from the Swiss architectural office Novaron Eicher Hutter Gepp is responsible for the building.
