Two voices – one bathroom: Brand-name Manufacturers from the German Sanitation Industry and International Designers in Dialogue at the ISH 2005

As part of the ISH's regular focus on “The Bathroom Experience”, Outlook – Building Perspectives, the brand of Messe Frankfurt for architects, designers, creative personnel, technical planners and engineers, turns the spotlight on the future of the bathroom. This interdisciplinary forum brings together people who have something to say – about design, architecture, product development, concepts for the future, bathroom planning and exhibition design.

„Two voices – one bathroom” is the motto of the “Design Day,” which marks the start of the ambitious five-day fringe programme to the “Outlook – Shaping Water“ Fair event on 15 March 2005. Joining journalist Frank A. Reinhardt, who will act as moderator of the discussions, prominent experts and representatives of major German sanitation brands will encounter international designers, and together reflect on the role design plays in the product development process and the product concepts. They will also comment on their winning designs at ISH.

In recent years, design has been one of the most crucial factors in shaping the success of the sanitation industry. German companies, in particular, have managed to gain a leading position on the international design market. Renowned duos such as Philippe Starck and Duravit & Co., to mention only one of the highlights, mark a newly established structure of cooperation between companies and designers, who work together in various constellations. The participants in the panel represent many years of successful partnerships between creation and calculation.

Arranged in pairs and to be held during the course of the day, the on-stage discussions will offer a glimpse behind the scenes: How does a fruitful working relationship develop in detail? What are the elements of success? What impact do architecture concepts have? Are there differences between the idea and the usage of bathrooms? What are the future trends in the bathroom?

Organiser of the event is the Association for the German Sanitation Industry (Vereinigung der Deutschen Sanitärwirtschaft e.V. – VDS). Prominent representatives of the German and international design scene have already announced their participation in the eight half-hourly events:
