red dot establishes new award for design concepts in Singapore

The internationally renowned “red dot design award,“ which this year celebrates its 50-year jubilee, has extended into the area of “design concept.“ What makes the new “red dot design award” special: as the name suggests, instead of centering on products that have already been introduced to the market, the award focuses on design concepts; on new, creative and exciting ideas and visions. The “red dot award: design concept” is intended to assess and promote truly creative achievements: designers, agencies, design studios, design professionals, student as well as research departments and inventors worldwide are invited to take part in the “red dot award: design concept.” All kinds of innovations and design novelties that have not yet been introduced to the market can be submitted. Participants are invited to register online for the competition from now until July 31, 2005.

In mid-February 2005, the new “red dot award: design concept“ was presented by Ken Koo, President of red dot Singapore, to the public in the press conference in the Art House in Singapore.

Singapore is the ideal environment for the new red dot award, because as a geographical, economic and cultural centre in Asia, Singapore well nigh lends itself as the best location for a competition that assesses and promotes excellence in design visions for the future. The growth in Asia is very fast: the high potential for quality development in Asian culture and economy has turned the region into one of the most exciting and interesting areas of the world. Asia constitutes an enormous reservoir of creativity and new ideas; the region is vibrant with energy.

The “red dot award: design concept“ pays tribute to the high potential and creative energies of young up-and-coming talents, designers and ambitious design companies – not only in Asia, but also around the world. The new competition will provide the important link between creative designers and companies. It will offer talented designers around the world the chance to present their new concepts and creative visions, to compete on an international level, and to distinguish themselves by receiving an award for their talent and high potential in innovation.

The jury will judge the concepts in Singapore in August, and the highlight of the competition will be the festive award ceremony in Singapore in November. The exhibition of all award-winning concepts within the competition will also be opened on the same evening.

Since the 1st of March, red dot Singapore Online is linked to our website www.red-dot.de and the “design concept” pages will be extended and frequently updated – so make sure to revisit the page via the new “design concept” button in the top navigation menu!
