Icograda expands its professional membership
As the newest provisional full members Icograda welcomes AIGA (USA), the Designers’ Association of Singapore (Singapore), the Israel Community of Designers (Israel) and the South African Graphik Design Council think (South Africa).
At the coming XXI Icograda General Assembly in Copenhagen, Denmark from 29-30 September, all voting Icograda members will be asked to ratify these new memberships, in addition to seven other organisations which have been admitted as provisional members since the 2003 General Assembly in Nagoya, Japan.
Executive director Richard Grefe says that AIGA was convinced that the influence of design had never been greater than before and that designers from all cultures could learn form one another and help each other to create both a better and a more interesting world.
Icograda: multi-national network
The admission of these four new members reflects the diversity of Icograda’s members, which come from 48 different countries. The Icograda Education Network includes 65 schools in 27 countries. The Icograda Media Network lists 231 media in 46 countries. At the end of May 2005, Icograda and ICSID opened their joint headquarters in Montréal.
With their cooperation, ICSID and Icograda are doing justice to the ever increasing commercial importance of design. Design is nowadays a constituent part of a corporate strategy and together with product development, marketing and corporate communication, assume the key function of an innovative values-oriented and quality-assuring economic factor both internally and externally. With their lobbying work, both of the umbrella organisations promote this understanding of design both in the industrial segment and in graphic design.
