Concept cars
Concept cars are the technological and aesthetic forerunners. They are investments into the research of forms, technical solutions, and materials dealing with the future of mobility.
BMW Z4 Coupé concept study The design of the Z4 Coupé is characterised by contrasts which result from the interplay of concave and convex surfaces meeting in striking lines. In contrast to the cabriolet, the dynamic lines form a closed whole, giving the coupé an overall calmer appearance. The roof line is that of a classical coupé with the centre of gravity visibly moved to the rear axle. The glass part of the passenger cell - the greenhouse – tapers into the rear end, thus emphasising the rear wheel arches. The “Glacier Silver” finish, a matt silver hue, was developed exclusively for the study and emphasises the vehicle’s sculptural character. The interior design is also characterised by contrasts. Matt and shine contrast each other in the aluminium elements and also form a contrast with the warm brown hues of the leathers. In the interaction of light and dark surfaces, black and coloured surfaces delimitate the individual functional levels.
Mini Mini presents the Mini Concept Frankfurt, a design study based on the 1960 four-seat Mini Estate. The headlights are positioned in the bonnet and the hexagonal grill is designed in one piece. This creates an alert, friendly expression. The study presents space saving as well as space creating solutions based on new technologies. The study’s doors, for example, are opening with intelligent parallelogram kinematic joints.
The roof features a sun roof which covers almost the complete roof area, and appears self-supporting due to the window line extending all around the car and the omission of a B-pillar. The seats, which seem to float, make the interior appear more spacious and create a special look. This impression is further supported by the slim seat construction, which is essentially reduced to two shells. The free hovering dashboard with the so-called ‘centre speedo’ further emphasises this open look.
The Mini Concept also presents a new range of surfaces and materials: The “Satellite Silver” finish is the result of an iridescent mix of silver and grey multilayer paintwork. The dominant materials in the interior are leathers with different surfaces and feels as well as chrome and aluminium.
Maybach Exelero The Maybach Exelero is a unique custom model produced for Fulda Reifenwerke, which is using the 700 bhp two-seater as a reference vehicle for a newly developed generation of wide tyres. As early as 1939, a streamlined sports car based on the Maybach SW 38 enabled tyre tests for Fulda with a speed of 200 km/h.
The Exelero was constructed by the developers from the Maybach manufactory who also included students of the University of Applied Sciences Pforzheim in the process. The base of the Exelero is the Maybach 57. From this coupé an oversized two-seater has been created: 5.89 metres long, 2.14 metres wide and 1.39 metres high. The long bonnet, the sharp shape of the headlights, the aerodynamic back end, and rear lights consisting of five dot-shaped lights each demonstrate dynamics, elegance and sportiness.
With its dynamically stretched elegance, its clear lines, its understatement, and its ultimate luxury this car represents the summary of our trends. Our picture gallery “Concept Cars” presents further current examples.
