Speaker’s Portrait: Karim Rashid

Karim Rashid is one of the shooting stars of lifestyle design. On the International Steel Forum Design in Düsseldorf on 10 November 2005 he will talk as key note speaker about the “beauty in our material world”, the main subject being “luxury and lifestyle”.

At present Karim Rashid is one of the most successful and most popular designers of the world. Rashid was born in Cairo in 1960 and was educated in Canada. In 1993 he went to New York where he founded his own studio; since that time he is celebrated as “prophet of the organic form”. His works were already exhibited among others in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in the British Museum in London. Rashid has worked for renowned companies such as Prada, Umbra, Miake and Giorgio Armani; last year he was selected to design a flagship store for him. He already got numerous awards; he is on tour as guest lecturer at universities and conferences all over the world. Moreover, Karim Rashid publishes books; and he has already placed two CDs on the market. The all-round designer creates furniture and is active in the field of interior design true to his motto: “I want to change the world”.
