Karim Rashid designs products for Normann Copenhagen

Karim Rashid, a shooting star of international lifestyle design, is the latest in a long line of famous designers Normann Copenhagen has won over with its approach to product design. The international design firm hires only renowned industrial designers, thus placing strong emphasis on design as its key factor for success. A strategy that has worked to great effect: in 2005, the “Normann Funnel” won the company the internationally renowned red dot, the coveted seal of quality for outstanding design.

Humour, together with innovation and quality, are the driving forces at Normann Copenhagen. The ambition of the design firm is to improve the world via high-quality products. Thus, Normann Copenhagen is clearly on the same wavelength as all-round designer Karim Rashid who creates furniture to interior designs true to his motto: “I want to change the world.”

In collaboration with Karim Rashid, himself a winner of the red dot design award, Normann Copenhagen has created two ordinary products for everyday use. The piggy bank “Time is money” and the hanger “Orgo” are Karim Rashid’s interpretations of objects that according to his opinion deserve closer attention in our everyday life.

“I think that the products I designed for Norman Copenhagen are odd banal products that don’t get the attention they deserve. It is always great to work on objects like piggy banks and hangers. These ubiquitous objects need perpetual new ideas, new personalities, new character, to be more animated but in an abstract way, not as kitsch or literal redesign,” Karim Rashid explains.

Orgo is a plastic hanger that is decorative in itself. Its organic shape is inviting, dynamic and functional at the same time. The colourful hanger, available in pink, green, blue and orange, aims to bring life and pleasure to the wardrobe.
The hourglass shaped piggy bank “Time is Money” is the connection between time and money realised in one and the same product. Like the motion of the sand in an hourglass that measures passing of time the coins drop into “Time is Money.” The innovative piggy bank is available in pink, green and clear plastic. Both products will be available in the shops in March.
