red dot in Moscow

From 9 to 12 March 2006, the red dot design award will showcase itself in Moscow. On the occasion of the FIDexpo 2006, a selection of award-winning products in the red dot design award will be on loan from the red dot design museum to be shown in Moscow to both design experts and the Russian public. The exhibition will take place in the famous Gostiny Dvor, one of the most prestigious venues in Moscow. The FIDexpo offers visitors from around the world the opportunity to gain an overview of innovation in international product design. The event is organised by the RESTEC Exhibition Company in St. Petersburg.

Professor Dr. Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and president of the International Council of Societies and Industrial Design (Icsid), will present the exhibition at a press conference on 9 March 2006. At a seminar on 10 March 2006, Professor Dr. Zec will also give a speech to renowned Russian product designers and architects, and talk with Serguei Trofimov, president of the RESTEC Exhibition Company as well as with Yuri Nazarov, president of Russian Designers’ Union.

The red dot design award has experienced great success internationally. The award is an indicator of outstanding design achievements and receives submissions from around the world. But what is the benefit of such a competition if the award-winning products are shown only at one location. red dot is constantly working on greater worldwide visibility of the competition and aims to establish the red dot design award in different places around the world. For this reason, the award-winning products are on display in many international exhibitions. Among the stopping places of the “red dot on the road” are capital cities such as Tokyo, Sydney, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore.

The presentation of the red dot design award in Moscow is part of these internationally oriented activities. The red dot design award offers the opportunity to make new contacts, to inspire through new design, to promote the design profession and, last but not least, to do good business. The exhibition in the famous Gostiny Dvor in Moscow provides an elegant and prestigious setting for the selection of international products that have been honoured with the red dot design award in 2005.

Exhibitions such as the FIDexpo have come a long way over the past few years and their influence on the Russian economy is remarkable. “For us, the founders of the red dot design award, the FIDexpo is an excellent opportunity to showcase award-winning design in Russia,” said Professor Dr. Zec. A design award such as red dot has not just an economic function, but rather it promotes young creative talent in the respective host country by offering the opportunity to get deeply involved with the subject of design. “An event such as our special exhibition at the FIDexpo taps into the creative potential of young designers and encourages them to face up to national and international competition,” Zec said, stressing the importance of the award.
