International Furniture Trends 2006 – The Comeback of Baroque

Globalisation is a phenomenon dominating and drastically shaping our current era. Consequently, the effects of the worldwide cross-linking of economy, technology, and communication upon society are considerable and reach all the way into the private living sphere, because influences from different cultures and foreign traditions, as well as the blending of respective styles, result in totally new ways of living and dwelling.

Whereas some people see globalisation as a big chance, it instils fears of the future in others, foremost resulting from the thought that nothing will stay the way it is. Globalisation has risen the level of fear in industrialised nations all over the world. An ever faster changing economy, relocation of jobs into countries with lower labour costs, and the fear of losing one's job resulting from that, combined with terrorist assaults and environmental catastrophes – all this leads to a situation in which the society is yearning, more than ever, for security, stable conditions, and well-established values.

Against this background, the consumer focuses upon those things that, in times of instability, still convey to him the desired feeling of security and reliability: his own home which he now identifies more and more as social get-together and a place of secure refuge.

In this context, the significant value of one's living environment and interest in design are increasingly taking on priority. Meanwhile, design has evolved to now become a significant economical factor, and the industry´s outlook on the new business year is correspondingly optimistic.

In the trend gallery following below we would like to introduce to you the most important design tendencies as well as to current trends with regard to colours, forms, and materials.
