Application phase 2017 is on
Designers and manufacturers can enter their products for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 – one of the largest product competitions in the world. For more than 60 years, it has offered a fair and independent design benchmark.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects of high design quality. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of all entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. It goes to the best products of a category like the IKEA bike “SLADDA”.

“Under the Sign of the Circle” presents Red Dot awarded innovations from Japan
Entitled “Under the Sign of the Circle”, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents an exhibition of Japanese products until 19 March 2017. From electronic drums to extravagant packaging to origami chair: Around 100 exhibits invite visitors to discover Japanese design.

The Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2017 offers designers, companies and universities from all over the world the opportunity to enter their product visions and put their whole creative potential to the test. The Early Bird registration phase runs until 31 January.
Eexhibition on Red Dot awarded product benchmarks from Taiwan and abroad at the Red Dot Design Area Taipei
Until 23 April 2017, the Red Dot Design Area Taipei presents the exhibition “Juxtapositions: Red Dot awarded Product Benchmarks from Taiwan and Abroad”. On show are Taiwanese and international objects which were granted a prize in the Red Dot Award: Product Design. With a view to design, the presentation illustrates where Taiwan is positioned in the world.

Looking back on the design highlights of the year
2016 was again an eventful and successful year for Red Dot that was characerised by numerous high points. Those include the Red Dot Gala in Essen, Germany, the awards ceremony of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept in Singapore, and the honouring of the laureates of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design in Berlin.

On 27 February 2017, the Red Dot Award: Communication Design will start into a new competition's year and will be in search for the worldwide best communication solutions. Last year, the German agency Serviceplan managed to ensure itself the honourary title as Red Dot: Agency of the Year. Red Dot spoke to Alexander Schill, Chief Creative Officer of the Serviceplan Group.

Currently, the registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 is on. The regular registration ends on 20 January 2017. The Red Dot jury assesses thousands of entries from all around the world and assigns the Red Dot for good design quality. The awarded manufacturers and designers use the winner label for their communications and also profit from further benefits. The Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents an exhibition of a very special type.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects of high design quality. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of all entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. It goes to the best products of a category, among them the IKEA bike “SLADDA”. Red Dot asked the jury what they particularly appreciated about the design of this bike, and talked to the designers Oskar Juhlin, Kristian Eke und Jan Puranen from Veryday.

As of now, exhibitors at “interzum 2017” can register their innovations for “interzum award: intelligent material and design 2017”. Koelnmesse is already hosting the design competition for the ninth time in collaboration with Red Dot. Until 3 March, the furniture supplier industry is invited to face the international comparison with their products. The best designs will be selected by an international expert jury.

Only until 8 January 2017, the exhibition “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) will be on show in the French city of Saint Etienne. Already since the middle of September 2016, a selection of Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world is on show at the Cité du Design. It inform visitors about the merits and value of good design and demonstrates that the term “design” goes way beyond the surface.
