The Product Design competition has existed since 1954. Its award, the Red Dot, is an internationally recognised quality seal. The best products receive the Red Dot: Best of the Best award.

The competition for Design Concepts and prototypes is held annually in Singapore. The highest award for the best of all concepts is the Red Dot: Luminary which includes prize money of SGD 5,000.

The highest award in the Communication Design competition is the “Red Dot: Grand Prix” for the best work in a category. The “Red Dot: Junior Prize”, which includes prize money of 10,000 euros, will be awarded to the best student work.

LG Electronics – last year's strongest brand

Every year, one company has the chance to demonstrate its brand strength and presence in the course of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design. The “Red Dot: Brand of the Year” convinced the Red Dot jury with innovative design solutions and a large number of entries. Honoured is design quality and decisiveness in brand management – regardless whether placed on the expertise of external agencies or on the company’s own award-winning communications. In 2015, the South Korean company LG Electronics has managed to win through as the strongest brand in the competition. More

Red Dot Award: Product Design – These are the Winners’ Benefits (Part 3/4)

The registration for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 is on and ends on 10 February 2016. Winning the Red Dot opens the doors for manufacturers and designers to a worldwide network and offers exclusive options for communicating their success. The Winners’ Benefits are, amongst others, the presentation of the product within the Winners’ Exhibition for four weeks, starting on the day of the Red Dot Gala. Afterwards, the prize-winning products become part of the permanent exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany for at least one year. Additionally, the Red Dot on Tour programme makes sure that a selection of award-winning products will be exhibited in further countries, recently in Hong Kong, Zurich, and Moscow. More

“Design as Experiment”: exhibition about Tõnis Käo in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen

Designers have a formative influence on our daily live like hardly any other professional group. One of them is Tõnis Käo; his achievements will be honoured in the special exhibition “Tõnis Käo: ‘Design as Experiment’, Retrospective”. From 22 January until 3 April 2016, the exhibition, which was curated by the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, presents an overview of the life’s work of the pioneer in system design in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen. More

Top class design: The best cars of 2015

In an evaluation process spanning several days, the team of experts of last year’s Red Dot Award: Product Design awarded the sought-after seal of quality for good design, the “Red Dot”, to 1,240 products. 122 entries won an Honourable Mention for a particularly well executed aspect of design work.
