The Product Design competition has existed since 1954. Its award, the Red Dot, is an internationally recognised quality seal. The best products receive the Red Dot: Best of the Best award.

The competition for Design Concepts and prototypes is held annually in Singapore. The highest award for the best of all concepts is the Red Dot: Luminary which includes prize money of SGD 5,000.

The highest award in the Communication Design competition is the “Red Dot: Grand Prix” for the best work in a category. The “Red Dot: Junior Prize”, which includes prize money of 10,000 euros, will be awarded to the best student work.

“La valeur du design” – Red Dot selection 2016 in St. Etienne

In St. Etienne, France, a new exhibition will present the merits and value of good design – and it will prove that the term goes way beyond the surface. From 15 September 2016 until 8 January 2017, “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) will show Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world at the Cité du Design. More

IFA 2016: Red Dot winners, smart household appliances and drones

The IFA is the world’s leading fair for consumer electronics and home appliances. On an area of 150,000 square metres, about 1,600 exhibitors presented more than 10,000 innovations this year. Also a Red Dot team was on site: to meet laureates of the Red Dot Award: Product Design and discover the newest trends and developments. The keynote “Consumer experience in the connected kitchen” by Dr. Karsten Ottenberg, CEO BSH Hausgeräte, granted insights into current product worlds and the technologies of tomorrow. In general, the terms “smart” and “connectivity” were fundamental keywords on the Berlin fair. More

Red Dot winners 2016: 22quadrat, Beetroot Design Group and Yadegar Asisi

The winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016 are set. From thousands of entries, the jury has chosen the best communication performances of the year. In a total of 21 categories, designers from all over the world could demonstrate their talent. Among others, the agency 22quadrat, the Beetroot Design Group as well as the artist Yadegar Asisi can be glad about a distinction with the Red Dot label. More

Outstanding design and its makers: Wristwatch “Minimatik”

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects with high quality design. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of around 5,200 entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. It goes to the best products of a category. The Minimatik for instance stood out in the watch category. Red Dot asked the jury what they particularly appreciated about the design of this wristwatch, and talked to Simon Husslein, one of the designers. More

Spot on – The winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016 have been chosen

The winners of this year’s Red Dot Award: Communication Design have been chosen. Participants from across the world were able to demonstrate their skills in a total of 21 categories. For the first time, E-Commerce and Retail Design were included in the main entry categories. The numerous communication and design projects were evaluated by a jury of 26 industry experts. In an appraisal process lasting several days, they decided who would be awarded the Red Dot this year. In 2016, only 0,8 percent of the works submitted were honoured with the Red Dot: Best of the Best – the award for outstanding design expertise. More

Spanish Red Dot winners: exhibition “¡Viva el Diseño!” in Zaragoza

Already since 11 May 2016, the exhibition “¡Viva el Diseño! Red Dot winners from Spain” is on show in the Museum Pablo Serrano in Zaragoza, Spain. The Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany organizes it jointly with the Centro Aragonés de Diseño Industrial (Cadi) and the Instituto Aragonés de Arte y Cultura Contemporáneos (IAACC PABLO SERRANO). Until 18 September 2016, the presentation gives an overview of the contemporary understanding of design in Spain and underlines its international charisma. More
