The Product Design competition has existed since 1954. Its award, the Red Dot, is an internationally recognised quality seal. The best products receive the Red Dot: Best of the Best award.

The competition for Design Concepts and prototypes is held annually in Singapore. The highest award for the best of all concepts is the Red Dot: Luminary which includes prize money of $5,000.

The highest award in the Communication Design competition is the “Red Dot: Grand Prix” for the best work in a category. The “Red Dot: Junior Prize”, which includes prize money of 10,000 euros, will be awarded to the best student work.

Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2015 – Providing a wider platform for innovation

Calling for entries for this year’s Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Companies, design studios, universities and designers alike from 63 countries submitted 4,791 entries of their best innovative ideas during the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2014. 2015's best design ideas and prototypes will emerge from a total of 31 concept categories. The categories are deliberately wide to ensure limitless imagination. With the introduction of two new categories, designers are encouraged to think beyond the conventional list to define new innovations and explanations. More

“Formosa Forms” exhibition opened in Munich

On 24 February 2015, the exhibition “Formosa Forms – Design trends in technology and lifestyle from Taiwan” was opened at the Munich Creative Business Week. Until 1 March 2015, the exhibition, which was commissioned by the Taiwan Design Center, Taipei, showcases about 100 elaborate exhibits which underline both the contrast and the symbiosis of tradition and modernity in Taiwanese design. Experienced Red Dot jurors Alvarez Fuentes, Bocchietto and Toft enrich the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015

This year, 38 renowned specialists from all over the world guarantee with their expertise the high quality level of the Red Dot Award: Product Design as well as the expressiveness of the Red Dot seal. Every jury member pledges to a “Code of Honour” and is excluded from taking part in the competition. In addition, to avoid conflicts of interest, the jurors may not be employees of the manufacturing industry. The internationally esteemed design professionals, whose background allows them to consciously assess the special intercultural aspects of design, comprises new members and Red Dot experienced jurors, such as Manuel Alvarez Fuentes from Mexico, Dr. Luisa Bocchietto from Italy and Nils Toft from Denmark. The branding of the Berlin branch of one of the most famous and largest advertising agencies in Germany may strike some as odd at first. Not “Scholz” but “Heiduk” was projected onto the imposing building facade in huge digital letters. But that was simply because it was the turn of Christin Heiduk, a consultant of the firm, to gain some exposure. In fact, in keeping with the “friends” credo of the legendary founder Jürgen Scholz, every employee got to enjoy the own 30 minutes of fame at one point. More

Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 - Lu, Bucher and Stotz are new Red Dot jurors

The registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 is over and the jury out of 38 internationally renowned experts is preparing for the jury session. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovations”, the committee will come together in Essen, Germany, to award the best products of the world. Every year, the Red Dot jury is regrouped and its members are in charge of specific product categories due to their specialised knowledge. New members of the expert group are among others Oliver Stotz, Lam Leslie Lu and Rüdiger Bucher. More
