red dot award: communication design 2008

In his play “My Mother’s Courage”, George Tabori tells about an incident that happened to his mother Elsa in 1944 in Budapest. She was arrested for being Jewish and deported to Auschwitz. En route to the concentration camp, shortly before arrival, she manages to escape. The poster hints at the fate of the persecuted people through the use of grey colouring, whereas Elsa’s courage and her luck of regaining her freedom are symbolised by a torn-off part revealing a view onto the sky.
