The coat of arms of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia was redesigned for the 60th anniversary of its establishment. The trademark was on the one hand to emphasise the special position of North Rhine-Westphalia and on the other hand symbolise clarity, openness and likeability. The most notable change is the omission of the black lines as well as the outlines of the elements within. Furthermore, new and tauter lines of the three elements Rhine, horse and rose contribute to making them stand out more clearly. The horse is more upright and more abstract, which adds to its dynamic impression, and the Rhine, which has one bend less, connects more softly and flowingly with the green surfaces symbolising the land.
