JAB Josef Anstoetz is awarded the red dot: best of the best for outstanding design
The furnishing fabric FLASH produced by JAB Josef Anstoetz of Bielefeld has been awarded the red dot: best of the best in the red dot award: product design 2007 competition for outstanding quality in design. The artistically produced design was born out of cooperation with the Dutch designer Marty Lamers, whose work has already been honoured with the red dot design award several times in the past few years.
red dot online talked to the designer Marty Lamers in an interview:
Mr Lamers, what has inspired you to create this special product and what was the intention behind it?
To achieve with all 4 offset print colours an iridescent vibrating effect.
Enhancing the “Flash”-effect use of a geodesical pattern together with fil-coupé cuttings to have transparent and dense parts where also the falling yarns give the flickering appearance.
What does being awarded the red dot: best of the best mean to you?
Die Bestätigung eines wunderschönen, interessanten und innovativen Produktes.
What particular challenges do you think designers have to face these days?Image of the product. Just the design is not enough.
Packaging, photography and display is all within the design.
Collaboration with industry and its technicians.
As a designer, what would you still like to accomplish in the future?
Recognition and price-winning awards for various interior products.
Softening the interior-world more with new and special textile products.
What do you think is the economic significance of design?
High, the product needs to get (sold) into the world.
(also again the confirmation of the industrial design: to be recognized and then reproduced for many people in the world).
The furnishing fabric is a modern hi-tech material which shimmers discreetly and captivates with its lightness, varying according to the angle at which it is seen and the way the light falls on it. By using a glossy acetate thread a matt-gloss effect is produced on the surface of the material. The pattern produced by the weaving technique gives the surface a three-dimensional “live” effect. The transparency of the fabric creates a simple but elegant look. The high quality fabric fits the modern, elegant lifestyle of a discerning, luxury-seeking target group and has a timeless beauty of its own thanks to its simple, lightweight design.
The JAB Josef Anstoetz KG Group has already worked with the Dutch designer Marty Lamers several times in the past and is well-known for its use of avant-garde materials and innovative designs. The high aesthetic quality of the FLASH furnishing fabric won the endorsement of the expert jury at the red dot award: product design 2007 award ceremony in the category for Architecture and Interior Design and was awarded the red dot: best of the best for the quality of its design.
