Flashback: red dot award: design concept 2005 - “Totemo” designed by Joey Roth

While still a student in Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania, Joey Roth came up with a concept to strip down the computer to its bare essentials, transforming it into an aesthetically pleasing form with 2 powerful benefits, silence and a well-cooled CPU.

Joey Roth received the red dot in the red dot award: design concept for his computer concept “Totemo” in 2005. The high reputation of the international design award called attention to the young designer and several computer case manufacturers from Taiwan and one large American systems manufacturer expressed interest in developing the “Totemo” chassis Joey designed. As it developed, the CPU design began to focus more on low energy consumption and low heat production than on speed. Presently, Joey Roth is working to shrink the case design to use laptop components and function as a home entertainment hub, while the case's surfaces and textures will fit very well with both modern and traditional living rooms.

The publicity Joey received from the red dot for “Totemo” made his main project, the teapot “Sorapot” possible by giving him the prestige and credibility that investors look for. Currently, the “Sorapot” teapot is in the late prototype phase, and manufacturers have been confirmed for each of its components. While, he has been confirming pre-orders with small retailers in the USA, his main concern now is finding distributors or retailers in Europe and Asia for “Sorapot”.
