Design and economics expert, Professor Dr Zec in Thailand

Professor Dr Zec, President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) and initiator of the red dot design award, will be one of the internationally renowned professional design speakers at the “Creative Strategy” symposium, which will take place in Thailand on the 12th of October in the context of the design event “Creativities Unfold, Bangkok 2007-08" (10-14 October 2007), in the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC).

The world is flat and distances hardly play a role anymore – at least if Thomas Friedman, Pulitzer prize winner and New York Times columnist is to be believed. Innovations such as computers, fibre optic cables and software for workflow solutions have ensured that individuals cooperate and compete ever better in the global arena. But how can one survive in this global contest?

Ideas and creativity will be the driving forces behind the economic and social change in the 21st century. Many products, which have changed our everyday culture, mirror the creativity of people who have understood how to give form to their ideas and how to be economically successful with them. But what is an idea? And how do we find it? These are the questions that Professor Zec examines in his presentation “Return on ideas – better by design”. With fascinating examples, he not only shows how successful products develop from ideas, and that design is a driving force for economic growth, but he also gives insight as to how ideas always need form, in order to change our everyday culture, and in order to be economically successful.

The “Creativities Unfold” event, initiated by the Thailand Creative & Design Centre, takes place annually and invites influential personalities in design and economics to impart their individual insights and points of view on diverse and design-oriented subjects to the Thai audience.  „Genius of the Place – in search of excellence from within“ is the motto for this year.

The symposium on the 12th of October is the first part of a three-day series. The two other themes are “Creative Practice“ und  “Genius Loci and Design” and will take place on the 13th and 14th of October. Other seminars and workshops as well as a “Name Card Festival” round off the “Creativities Unfold” event.
