Istanbul is the only metropolis that is located on two continents, Europe and Asia. With its 3.000 years of history it is one of the oldest existing cities in the world. It is the economic and cultural centre of Turkey and the home of several peoples, language groups and religions. Tradition and modernity are closely intertwined and present in the everyday life and lifestyles of the people living here.
The design of this work also combines tradition and modernity. “Istanbul” is a series of four different sized glasses with coasters for the traditional Turkish drinks tea, raki, yoghurt and water. All four are modelled on the characteristic tea glass with its slim waistline. This concave contour line is the starting point for the complete series and its corporate design – from the shape of the glasses and their individual packaging to the noble black carton with silver writing. This also reflects the harmonious design of the product and its packaging by incorporating the waisted shape through a recess in the longitudinal edge.
