The world’s knowledge doubles roughly every five years. Therefore it becomes more and more difficult to keep an overview of one’s discipline and stay up-to-date. In addition, no-one can say what amount of knowledge is lost and forgotten at the same time. Therefore it is all the more important to archive and edit not only the constantly new, but also the existing knowledge in such a way that it remains lively and active in memory. The privately managed “Museum for Everyday Customs and Traditions of Village Life” in Rubenheim in the German state of Saarland had previously been archived insufficiently, so that its existence would be threatened after the death of its owner. As part of a thesis the museum’s collection was re-organised and documented. A new presentation concept was developed for the exhibits and a virtual exhibition on the Internet and a publication series as well as a corporate design were created. The visual parenthesis of the design is an abstract forest. It reflects the museum’s dense atmosphere and serves as a background into which the folkloristic exhibits and objects of everyday use are embedded and against which they are presented in different ways.
