It is a wise old saying that whoever does their work well and enjoys it, is happy. The meaning it also has when you reverse it, when you do the tasks of work and everyday life with all your heart, is the underlying thought of this annual report. Even the title itself, “Excerpt from the eternal debate about the heart” indicates that the reader can expect more than just the plain figures of the previous financial year. But first, some delicate bands have to be untied, which hold together the content bound in two shining white cardboard sheets. The large food manufacturer Podravka, known as a “company with a heart”, which even adorns its logo, uses the symbolism of the heart in its advertising. The approach of this report is to illustrate this symbolism using the analogy of preparing meals. Accompanied by several recipes, a Croatian author tells in a handwritten text what a great role these foods played in his childhood and how he not only associates them with nourishment, but with a world of taste experiences and memories. The annual report itself is printed on simple continuous paper, which was common in the 1970s, contrasting with the report’s very upmarket design, which presents itself as independent with regards to content as well as aesthetics.
