Jean Nouvel

For the Italian manufacturer Molteni & C, the French architect Jean Nouvel created the “SKiN” sofa, whose intelligent design concept impressed the red dot jury.
The now 62-year-old became internationally known with his design of the “Institut du Monde Arabe” in Paris, which he implemented commissioned by François Mitterand from 1981 to 1987, and which was followed by more than 200 projects worldwide, among them the Galeries Lafayette in Berlin and the Opera House of Lyon. Jean Nouvel is one of the most influential contemporary architects and will receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize this year. Each of his designs is unique. With innovative solutions and a harmonious use of colours and materials, the versatile designer manages to surprise time and again. Jean Nouvel often compares his work to that of a film director: “The interplay of theme and object has to be staged perfectly. Only then do people perceive things as aesthetic.”
