Interview mit Robert Krewedl
Robert Krewedl is an optician and founded “RK Design” in 1991, a company that specialises in the design and distribution of spectacle frames. The spectacle frame from the Time Out Model Bob collection is handmade and cut by laser from an extremely thin high-grade steel sheet. The patented screw-less temple hinge is unique and distinctive, featuring a flexible fold-out system. The design experts in this year’s red dot jury were impressed by the lightness of the design and awarded the Time Out Model Bob a “red dot: best of the best”.
Mr. Krewedl, what challenges does modern eyewear have to overcome?
Glasses have to offer outstanding comfort and harmonise with the lightness of the material. A pair of glasses should not change but rather underline the individuality of its wearer.
What is innovative about the Time Out spectacle frame?
The flexibility of the Time Out spectacle frame! A patented, screwless flex-hinge offers the highest flexibility. The spectacle frame was cut and shaped by laser from 0.5 mm high-grade steel sheeting, and that’s why it is so light.
What is your design philosophy?
To design purist, wearable spectacle frames. Minimal art – to achieve the best with as little material as possible. Time Out Design aims to become a kind of brand mark.
What is of particular importance to you when designing new glasses?
To create designs and wearable forms that give people the feeling that they have bought something special. Design always implies... creating something special!
How would you describe your design style?
Time Out spectacle frames are purist, clear, light, innovative, and “for spectacle wearers who demand something special.”
