Sound bridge – communication and living
Listening to music on an MP3 player on the metro for instance has become a common everyday experience, while it has also triggered a new way of handling music: the devices are light and easy to operate, and MP3 files are available from almost anywhere. When new technologies become part of our lives, they also produce new forms and exciting design layouts. The portable speaker designed by Kang Yong Soo and Kim Ji Hee is such a product, with a design based on careful observation and which enriches the way we use the technologies of our time. Bluetooth is used to connect the speakers to the playback device, allowing the user to listen to amplified music from his MP3 player or mobile phone. The design of this speaker system also overcomes the problem of some mobile phones, for example, of only rendering sound in mono – these innovative Bluetooth speakers allow high-quality sound with an output of two watts. Highly surprising about this speaker system is its organic and elegant U-shape, which is closely linked to the device’s functionality. The speaker’s shape can be altered via a hinge and the system can thus be placed almost anywhere in the room – it can take the shape of a decorative stand-alone element or be put against a wall. With its compact design and fold-together function, this speaker system is very flexible and easily adapts to changing arrangements in everyday life. Another highly interesting design detail is the LED lighting at the end of the speaker. The lighting blinks according to the musical rhythm and stimulates the emotion of the listener – the speakers thus embody an aesthetic bridge between sound and form for the technology of our time.
