A mediator of communication The psychologist and sociologist Kurt Lewin coined his famous theorems of group dynamics at the beginning of the 20th century and they are still of significance in psychology today. According to his theses the communicative behaviour of an individual is related to the role the individual has within a group group communication follows clear rules. Against this background, the highly appealing and interactively oriented design of the Tatung Tricom conference system offers new possibilities for improving the communication in conferences and meetings. The aim was to develop a device that could assist group communication interactively and thus makes it more efficient. The design of this device with its sculpted triangular shape has a reassuring effect on the participants seated around a table the triangle is open both figuratively and actually and therefore well suited for conference environments. Another important advantage of this form is the improvement in sound quality: the directionality of the microphone within the casing can be adjusted efficiently and so the voice of the speaker is transmitted at the best possible level of clarity. On each side of its triangle shape the Tatung Tricom conference system features a three-dimensional receiver so the sound is picked up efficiently from within the room and the sound is efficiently spread throughout the room. In order to make the conference system easy to operate also during a conference, a microphone switch is clearly placed on the top. The sensible appearance and easy operability of the touch panel is another interesting aspect of the design: with its automatic sliding mechanism it reveals itself only during the dialling process and slides back in after use the conference system is thus a convenient and aesthetically pleasing mediator of communication.
