When developing the X1, the manufacturers drew inspiration from the classical Chinese dictionary and lexicon “Cihai”, which translates as “Sea of Words”. The design concept began by regarding the mobile telephone as an instrument of communication, the essence of which is determined by the exchange of knowledge and words. This thought is conveyed by a seemingly serious appearance, whose elegant style underlines the professionalism and high demands of the user. When closed, the X1 gleams in dark blue and focuses attention on the well-dimensioned touch-screen display. Sliding the display upwards brings into view the clearly structured keypad of electroplated metal. The resulting contrast creates a dynamic aesthetic appeal, which, in keeping with the Cihai, is intended to symbolise a link between art and science.
