iPod Radio remote control

red dot
red dot award: product design 2006

With the wired iPod Radio Remote, the user can turn on and off the iPod FM radio, select and change stations, and adjust the volume. In addition, it can be used to control slide shows, videos and music playbacks. The remote control supports FM stations in the frequency band from 87.5 to 107.9MHz and 76 to 90MHz (Japanese standard) so that different standards can be selected when travelling. The familiar interface is used to connect the remote control up to the dock connector of the iPod or iPod nano. The headphones delivered with the unit are user-friendly and can be plugged into the 3.5mm stereo mini jack or directly into the remote control. As the power for the iPod Radio Remote is supplied by the iPod itself, no additional batteries are needed to operate the unit. With a weight of 15.7 grammes and an integrated clip, the remote control can easily be affixed to collars or shirt pockets.
