HIV-positive patients are dependent on regular CD4 counts to monitor health and initiate therapy. Previously, this was only possible in the laboratory, but with the Pima analyser these measurements can now be performed immediately at point-of-care. The simple operation of this compact and portable device now makes de-centralised CD4 testing achievable. The concept is based on an assembly platform inside two interlocking u-shaped aluminium plates, forming an electromagnetic shield. A robust rubber seal protects this portable device from dirt and impact at the various sites of use. The grip, display and the cartridge slot are formally integrated and are identified as points of activity by their colour. The surface contrasts convey robustness and reliability. The device is stored in a sturdy shoulder bag, which also provides storage space for necessary additional items.
