Emotional light atmospheres In the 1960s and 1970s, glass bricks were important elements in contemporary architecture. They not only brought light to staircases for example but also served as effective room dividers in various interiors. Glass bricks have many positive characteristics and are a symbol of straightforward and plain clarity. For some years now, they have been in vogue again and are being used as components in almost all areas of architecture; glass brick walls are illuminated and thus come to the fore. The LED Glass Brick combines this reinterpreted aesthetic with the advantages and possibilities of modern LED technology. The aim in creating this light module was to equip standardised glass bricks with LED technology, lending it the highly interesting capability to emit light in changing colours. It is this characteristic of LED technology in particular that offers manifold possibilities to enhance the interaction between people and spaces: the light can adapt itself by reinforcing or even creating emotional atmospheres. Using these possibilities, the LED Glass Brick “works” with added, new concepts of light, colour and texture – the light can thus suggest movement and dynamics, and is even capable to perform stunning lighting effects such as an elegant and infinitely variable flash changing effect. Another essential aspect of what the LED Glass Brick yields in innovation resides in the fact that these light module components allow for user-specific customisation of the glass textures. All kinds of glass alongside other transparent materials can be collocated to produce any colourful, multidimensional light presentation – glass bricks become components for individual lighting design.
