Visitor from space – design and inspiration “Zaphod stepped through the wall of the globe and relaxed on the sofa. He spread his two arms lazily along the back and with the third brushed some dust off his knee. His heads looked about, smiling; he put his feet up.” This is how Douglas Adams in his famous book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” describes the arrival of Zaphod Beeblebrox, the President of the Galaxy, on earth after he had just landed with his globe-shaped spacecraft. Though called a “guide to the galaxy”, this book is of a very special kind of science fiction – it is funny and full of wit. To present a counter world in such a witty manner and be able to amuse people again and again is something that the Spacewalker lamp too manages to achieve. It also looks as if it had just stepped out of a spacecraft: an illuminated creature with a huge, oversized head that is hanging on a red cord and floats freely underneath the ceiling. The design of the Spacewalker lamp combines geometric elements and organic forms into a friendly lighting object for use within a room. The basic model is made of translucent white plastic and can be customised with the help of red, green or blue colour filters to create atmospheric and changing light scenarios. With its organic language of form and poetic appeal, the Spacewalker lamp looks like a friendly visitor from space and is not only for use in indoor living areas, but can just as easily be used outdoors. Made from durable materials and featuring a waterproof design, one version of this lamp can also be set up in the garden – where it would look like a visitor who is kindly asking to be let in.
