Tools of light. The jungle is a system of levels of light where the gigantic trunks and dense foliage of rain forest giants scarcely permit any light to penetrate to the floor. The plants beneath the foliage have adapted to the dim light. The available quantity of light determines and defines the habitats of specific kinds of flora and fauna. Full sunlight only touches the jungle floor when one of the giant trees falls and new micro-environments are created. The U70 lighting system is reduced in design, confining itself to the essentials of a light source: light is emitted as a simple line. With a characteristic cross-section of 70 x 45 mm, the U70 is long and narrow in appearance. In accordance with the principle of strict reduction, the lamp blends into the architecture, emphasising the existing qualities of the room by its own subordination. The RHO system follows the same principle of design but is shaped as the light of the surface. A great variety of moods can be created with this system. The design accentuates light in space: white, warm or cold, bright or subdued. Both the U70 and the RHO system are made of plainly anodised extruded aluminium sections. The U70 lamp and the RHO lighting system create almost logical lines of light. The reduced design makes light into an almost organic tool of the architecture surrounding it.
