In the lands where coffee originated, the Kaffa region in the southwest of Ethiopia, coffee is prepared in the same way today as it was in the ninth century: Freshly roasted beans are crushed or ground and then boiled in a Jabana with sugar and water. Today, despite extensive globalisation, there are still many culturally different approaches to how coffee is brewed; coffee machines that can prepare rich tasting coffee are particularly in demand. Responding to this demand, coffee capsule machines offer a contemporary alternative to the classic coffee maker: with high pressure steam they brew up just the right serving from coffee that comes packed in plastic capsules, creating a rich crema and a fine aroma. The Delizio Compact capsule coffee maker fuses this approach to coffee making with a reduced and elegant design. While the outline of many capsule coffee makers mainly reflects their function as devices, the Delizio Compact retains a rather basic language of form, featuring a casing that is reduced to a minimum.
