The daily fascination of the possible The bin is an item we use every day and in cultural history it surely stands as one of mankind’s most important cultural assets – the earliest findings had already brought to light well shaped wooden bins that date back to 3,700 B.C. The design of the Eva Solo bin reinterprets the cultural asset of the bin in a highly self-confident manner, lending it a new aesthetics and functionality. The first time one lays eyes on it, this bin displays a high-quality and austere appearance – conical, clear, and entirely made of stainless steel. The way the bin opens and closes, however, then reveals a functionality of highly impressive and fascinating logic. When the bin is opened, the lid balances on the bin’s edge thanks to a sophisticated mechanism and hovers there, open, of its own accord. Only when the lid is nudged down slightly does it shut smoothly, again as if all by itself. A further aspect of this bin’s functionality can be found in the liner holder, which has been designed as a rubberised metal ring. After folding the mouth of the liner around the ring, it simply sinks into place in the bin. This ring is easy to clean because it has been designed without hinges, seams or hard-to-reach nooks for dirt to hide in. When the kitchen top is covered with waste, the bin’s lid can be taken off and turned around. Its inside acts as a bowl, which can be filled up with refuse and carried to the bin. The Eva Solo bin comes in three sizes for the kitchen, office or bathroom. Thanks to its design, the bin enhances the aesthetics of daily life and its ingenious functionality intrigues its users every day anew.
