The Apple Industrial Design Team
“Think different” – with the market launch of the iPhone the company Apple has further expanded its area of operation. In this year’s “red dot award: product design” the mobile phone received the “red dot: best of the best” for its outstanding design quality. Innovative company strategy, state-of-the-art technology and minimalist design language – the iPhone conveys, like all the other Apple products, the lifestyle of a whole generation. It combines a mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and the complete Internet in a device reduced to a size that fits into a trouser pocket. The Apple Industrial Design Team, which was selected “red dot: design team of the year” in 2002, time and again manages in an outstanding way to achieve a unique position in the market thanks to high product quality in connection with a striking design language. Since the 1980s, Apple has regularly set international standards with new design possibilities both for computer hardware as well as in the software sector.
The Apple iMac of the latest generation received the “red dot: best of the best” from this year’s expert jury for its pioneering design. Stateof-the-art and complex technology is translated into a minimalist design language in this device. With the new iMac, the Apple Industrial Design Team under the direction of Jonathan Ive has once again managed to remain true to its “Think different” credo. Innovation and design are characteristic elements of Apple’s company culture. The iMac’s market launch in summer 1998 marked the beginning of a new success series by the international group which managed to get Apple out of its economic trough. With the new design of the iMac the Apple Industrial Design Team has met the highest quality standards and managed to set standards in modern product design with its pioneering minimalist-transparent design language.
