red dot award: product design 2008 - Creative industry celebrates new design awareness
On the occasion of the red dot award: product design 2008 over 1,000 designers, culture enthusiasts, politicians and business specialists from all over the globe came together at the Essen Aalto Theatre on 23 June 2008 to honour this year’s award winners on stage. After the awards ceremony everyone celebrated late into the night at the traditional Winners' Party in the red dot design museum.
“The results of the red dot award: product design 2008 have shown that global design awareness is at a level never seen before", said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, design manager of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen (Design Centre of North Rhine-Westphalia) and initiator of the red dot design award, on the stage. “With 3,203 submissions we achieved an increase of 25.7% compared to the previous year. This shows the increasingly important role played by good design in global market positioning”, said the design expert.
The challenge cup “Radius”, which is handed to the red dot: design team of the year by the previous year’s winner, was awarded to the Bose Corporate Design Centre. Design manager Michael Laude and his team were on stage to accept the highest award of honour in the design world for their continued innovative design work. The laudatory address in honour of this year’s design team was given by Bonn author, journalist and radio host Dr. Michael Köhler.
The ballet piece “Leonce und Lena” by Christian Spuch, performed by the aalto ballet theatre, as well as two captivating pieces by drummer and composer Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic formed the cultural program component of the award ceremonies.
Three special exhibitions "Design on stage - winners red dot award: product design 2008", "Bose Design. The Expression of Technology" as well as "Singapore presents red dot award: design concept winners' exhibition", were opened by the afternoon for the first time this year at the red dot design museum.
After the award ceremony, Michelin star chef Frank Rosin’s creative gourmet creations provided the guests with additional inspiration at the festive Winners’ Dinner. The Winner’s Party at the red dot design museum provided the closing highlight of the evening.
