Register by 6 March for the interzum award: intelligent material & design 2009

Designers and manufacturers in the furniture supplier industry now have the chance once again to register for the ‘interzum award: intelligent material & design 2009’. Registration is possible until 6 March. As part of the ‘interzum 2009’, the world’s leading trade fair for suppliers of the furniture industry and interiors, Koelnmesse and red dot will join forces for the fifth time to organize a design competition aimed exclusively at the exhibitors at 'interzum' which has now become very well established. The awards ceremony will take place at the trade fair party on May 12, 2009. All award-winning products will be on show to the public in a special exhibition during the trade fair. This is the first year in which it is also possible to register online at www.interzum-award.com/registration.

As an industry-specific design competition, the ‘interzum award: intelligent material & design’ has become a benchmark for quality in the supplier industry. According to Professor Dr. Peter Zec, president of red dot, head of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and Senator of the Icsid: “In eras of mass production, design quality gains in significance, and manufacturers can use an interzum award as an effective communication instrument with which to position themselves on the market. We are delighted that our cooperation with Koelnmesse has strengthened the industry and given more visibility to the importance of design quality”.

The secret of quality is attention to detail, and manufacturers have recognised that it is the tiniest of details which make a product innovative. A product can only be successful on the market if all of its components work well together and are well-designed. The competition gives quality a face, raising products that receive the award above the large and varied offering at the ‘interzum’ trade fair. This draws attention to the major significance of design in this sector.

About the competition
An international jury of experts from the world of design and architecture will judge the entries from the subject areas ‘materials and surfaces’, ‘coverings, glass and light’, ‘upholstered furniture production and bedding’ and ‘system solutions’ and will grant awards to the best products for their exceptional design achievements. The award-winning products will be presented to the public during the trade fair from May 13 to 16, 2009. This draws the attention of the international visitors to the award-winning companies. After the trade fair, all winners will be presented in an online list at www.interzum-award.de.

About the cooperation
Through its cooperation with red dot, Koelnmesse not only emphasises the general significance of design as a driving force for the industry. In particular it also recognises the winners of the competition as innovators in the supplier industry. red dot and Koelnmesse have been cooperating successfully since 2001. In January 2009, red dot presented the ‘red dot living’ exhibition and a ‘red dot reception’ at the ‘imm cologne 2009’. The ’red dot reception’ is considered an important international networking event for the design world. Around 200 invited guests from the furniture and design industry took part. The reception was opened by Gerald Böse, the CEO of Koelnmesse, and Professor Dr. Peter Zec.
