On 20 January 2009 the red dot reception took place as part of the red dot exhibition “red dot living” at the imm cologne. The red dot reception, which was officially opened by the managing director of Koelnmesse, Gerald Böse, was already well received by the international design industry before the trade fair. Overall the mood at the imm cologne had been very good despite all prognoses: “Despite all economic problems the companies of the furniture industry present themselves optimistically and confidently,” said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, head of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, initiator of the red dot award and Icsid senator, in his welcoming speech in front of some 150 guests from all around the world. “With our presence at the imm cologne we would like to set an example and attempt to provide a response to the current economic situation with good design.” The “red dot living” exhibition will be on show in hall 11.3 until Sunday 25 January.

The red dot exhibition is regarded as an attraction and a popular meeting point at the trade fair. A selection of international winners of the red dot design award and thus a cross-section of top design achievements provide information about the high economic significance of good design quality on 320 square metres. At the same time, the exhibition provides an exclusive platform for companies to present themselves to an international trade audience at the imm cologne. “The red dot design award always serves as a mirror of the general mood,” explains Peter Zec. “We are overwhelmed as to how active companies are in regards to design also in 2009.”
 
The red dot reception has already established itself as a successful networking event of the industry in the past, such as, for example, at the red dot exhibition at the Index Dubai 2008.

The Cologne furniture fair is regarded as an international visitor magnet and has enormous commercial potential. The red dot presentation at the imm cologne has taken place for the first time in this form and is the result of a longstanding successful co-operation with Koelnmesse.
