The countdown is on for the red dot award: product design 2009 awards ceremony

On Monday, 29 June 2009, the winners of the red dot award: product design 2009 will be honoured at a festive ceremony in the Essen Aalto Theater by eminent representatives from design, business, and politics. Design lovers from all over the world have already announced their attendance at this impressive gala – and we would be delighted to welcome you, too, as our guest!

This year’s competition issued some 683 awards, 49 were furthermore prized with the red dot: best of the best. At the ceremony, these special awards for outstanding design performance will be conferred to each of the recipients on stage.

The event will start at 4 pm in the red dot design museum with a preview of the special exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2009,” featuring all award-winning products. The red dot: design team of the year 2009, the Tupperware World Wide Design Team, will present itself in the special exhibition “Tupperware – sophisticated simplicity advanced through engineering”. At 6 pm, the actual ceremony will then begin in Essen’s Aalto Theater. This year as well, the ceremony can boast an impressive cultural program: the drumming troupe “Beats and Noises” will present a surprising show between tap dance and percussion. As well, choreographer Ben Van Cauwenbergh and the aalto ballett theater essen will pay “Homage to Queen”.

The highlight of the event will be the official honouring of the red dot: design team of the year 2009. This year, the Irish design expert Michael Thomson was invited to hold the speech for this special award. Mr. Thomson worked as a consultant in numerous countries around the world in the field of development of national design policy and strategy, and was listed as one of the 50 most influential persons in the field of design by the UK magazine “Design Week”.

Following the awards ceremony, the traditional “Winners' Dinner” by star chef Frank Rosin will allow winners and guests of honour to eat, drink, and socialize in a convivial atmosphere. Starting at 8.30 pm, the red dot design museum will then open its doors for the “Designers' Night” where winners will be celebrated until the early morning hours.
