Icsid World Design Congress 2009 in Singapore

“Design Difference - Designing Our World 2050” will be the theme of the Icsid World Design Congress 2009 to take place from 23 to 25 November in Singapore. The congress offers designers, business leaders, politicians, and academics from all over the world an international platform to establish contacts, exchange ideas, discuss the role of design and its accompanying challenges, and build the foundations for future collaborations.

 
What will our life look like in the year 2050? Bearing this question in mind, the world’s most creative designers will present their visions at the 3-day congress in Singapore. After all, the challenges facing us in the coming 40 years also present new possibilities for developing new products, processes, and solutions that can serve as the foundation for a new, sustainable economy. The congress will examine and discuss the future role of design with regard to a wide array of topics ranging from urban development, transport, and healthcare to entertainment and sustainability. Moreover, nine “Design 2050 Studio” teams, led by renowned design leaders, will present their concepts and solutions for a more sustainable economy and society for the year 2050.

World Design Capital 2012
On 25 November 2009, the “World Design Capital 2012” will be announced at the Icsid World Design Congress 2009. The nominees for the coveted title are Eindhoven, Netherlands and Helsinki, Finland. Held every two years, World Design Capital is a competition open to cities from all over the world that have successfully implemented design for the restructuring and redesign of their city.

Singapore Design Festival 2009
Alongside the Icsid congress, the Singapore Design Festival will take place from 20 to 30 November 2009. Under the motto “Design 2050: Possibilities for Tomorrow,” the 11-day festival will feature some 100 design events, among them international presentations, award presentations, product launches, tours, open days, lectures, and workshops. The Singapore Design Festival 2009 offers designers and design-minded people from all over the world the possibility to get to know each other, make contacts, and exchange ideas. The international partners for Singapore Design Festival 2009 are Australia, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the European Union.
