Christopher Schmitz on “Rich details and tension as design elements”:
In “Anno 1404” users can create their own world of the 15th century. The elements for building the sites, towns and landscapes are not historically precise adaptations, rather we want to convey a picture of how reality is perceived – this is how things could have ideally looked in that epoch. The convincing realism of the game world is achieved through a vivid representation of city life. Users build huge metropolises. The impression of size is evoked by high monuments such as the imperial cathedral. Users will see more people on the construction site of this cathedral alone, than there have ever been in any average city in the earlier version of the game.
