red dot signs design congress MOU with Taiwan

On Monday 26 April 2010, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Michael T.L. Lin, deputy CEO of the Taiwan Design Centre, to become a global partner of the 2011 International Design Alliance (IDA) Design Congress Taipei. With its extensive international network red dot is an ideal partner for the international promotion of the 2011 Design Congress.

“With this co-operation Taiwan can further expand its connections with other countries in Europe,” said Connie Chang (Knowledge Services Division of the Industrial Development Bureau under the Ministry of Economic Affairs).
”This year 68 products from Taiwan have received an accolade in the red dot design award,” he added. Zec praised Taiwan’s achievements in this year’s competition. They had been the best results to date, said Zec. “The high quality of Taiwanese products is absolutely competitive,” he emphasised.

The IDA Congress 2011 will take place in Taipei from 24-26 October 2011. As one of the up and coming creative cities of Asia, with a design industry where young designers play a crucial role, Taipei had won the bid to host the IDA Congress 2011. The IDA Congress is an established and renowned design event, which is organised by the International Design Alliance, a strategic venture between the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), the International Council of Graphic Design Association (Icograda), and the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI). Some 3,000 elite designers from 60 countries are expected to attend the congress. Under the motto ‘Design at the Edges’ the interfaces of design and other areas such as science, technology, government, business, and humanitarian organisations are examined. Furthermore, the interrelation of design disciplines – communication, interior, and industrial design in particular – will be the subject of the congress.
