Trend spots red dot award: product design 2010
Globalisation, economic crisis, environmental disasters – catch phrases like these concisely describe some of the challenges people currently have to face. Since the human being is the focus of interest also in international product design, it is of great importance to take up these topics also in the design processes, grapple with them, and find adequate solutions.
Against this background it does not come as a surprise that in almost all product categories an interesting phenomenon can be observed: designers are looking back in order to look forward, integrating already established stylistic elements into a modern design context. Admittedly, the consistently high quality of the design concepts does not completely make up for the fact that they lack spectacular innovations or experimental approaches – but on the other hand, this method manages to take into account the current strong desire for stability without losing sight of possible perspectives or visions for the future.
