Registration
Who can take part in the red dot award: communication design?
Designers, agencies, design offices and clients that commission communication design work are invited to take part in the competition. Submissions can include all types of commissioned communication work using any kind of design technique that is realized in the period between 1 January 2008 and 1 July 2010.
Who can take part in the red dot: junior award?
The red dot: junior award is part of the red dot award: communication design competition and is aimed at students and up-and-coming designers.
The following special conditions must be met in order to take part in the red dot: junior award: the person registering the work must be a third-level student (copy of student ID is required) or a graduate with up to 2 years of experience since graduating (copy of the degree). In addition, the person registering the work must hold the copyright to the work submitted.

How many works can I register?
There is no restriction on the number of works that a participant can register.
Can I submit a piece of work in several categories?
A piece of work can be submitted in several categories, but not more than three. In this case the work must be registered separately / as a new registration for each category.
When is the closing date for registration?

Submission
Can the work submitted comprise several parts?
If the work comprises an overall concept with several individual works (hereinafter referred to as 'exhibit’), e.g. an advertising campaign, an image or a signage system, the registration fee increases accordingly.
These exhibits must clearly belong to the work submitted, i.e. on the back of the exhibit, in addition to the label please attach the sequence of the motifs (e.g. 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4).

How do I prepare the works?
You can find all of the relevant information under the menu item Preparing and sending in the work.
How long can an ‘offline media‘ submission (e.g. films, sound design) be? The recommended length is 3 minutes, or up to 5 minutes in exceptional cases.
What information is needed, and how long can the description be?
The description of your work will be requested directly during the online registration process. Each question can be answered with a maximum of 800 characters including spaces:
1. Brief description of the task and the solution
2. Only when registering TV, cinema and radio adverts: brief description of the content of the advert
The descriptions initially serve as a decision-making basis for the jury. If the product wins an award, the descriptions will be used for the yearbook. Please prepare the texts such that you can insert them in the right place in the online registration.
Please note: you can use your personal access data to add the description by 11 June 2010 at the latest.
Judging
Who are the members of the red dot jury?
The jury for the red dot design award can include only international experts who have not submitted any of their own work to the competition. The committee changes each year. Over several days, the committee judges each piece of work submitted and critically assesses whether or not the authoritative criteria to win an award have been met. This is why the jury of the red dot design award can guarantee absolute independence in addition to its high-ranking expertise.
What criteria does the jury use to judge the entries?
The jury is made up of personalities who have extensive knowledge in the areas in which they are used as jurors. Their wide range of experience and their unbiasedness give them the skills to judge the design quality of the works submitted. The following parameters are included in the judging process:

What elements make the work innovative?
Emotional quality
Does the work have a definite mood and
impression?
Design quality
Is the work borne out by its shape and is the work convincing in terms of how it is made and the material used or in its digital implementation?
Effectiveness
Is the work memorable, easy to understand and receive?
Prizewinning
When and for how long can the winners’ label be used?
Directly after the winners’ service package is booked, you receive permission to use the red dot winners’ label – always in connection with the award-winning work. There is no restriction on the length of time for which the label can be used.
How soon can news of my award be published?
In order to communicate the results of the red dot award: communication design 2010 at the same time in as far as possible, we would ask you to wait until 16 August 2010 before announcing your award.
However, if you are planning to attend trade fairs or hold presentations before this date, you can use those events to communicate your award with the ‘red dot’ quality seal.

Costs
What does it cost to take part in the red dot: junior award?
Participants in the red dot: junior award receive a 20% discount off of the registration fee but not off of any costs incurred for technology or returns as well as any latecomers’ fees.
How can I pay my fees for taking part?
Participants not based in Germany can pay the fee by credit card only (VISA, Eurocard, American Express). Participants based in Germany can also pay by bank transfer.
How are the total costs calculated if the work is awarded a prize?
You can find all of the relevant information under the menu item Costs in the event of winning a prize.
Invoice
When will I receive my invoice?
The invoice is sent to the contact person named in the online registration after the signed registration form is received.
