red dot dinner marks beginning of red dot design award 2011 in Asia
At the beginning of the call for entries period of the red dot: award product design 2011 in late November, red dot again visited Asia to hold the traditional red dot dinner – this year even in two different places. In Taiwan and Beijing Professor Dr. Peter Zec welcomed the nation’s most important companies to the red dot dinner where they could exchange ideas in inspiring conversations and discussions. The hosts, the Taiwan Design Center (TDC) and the Beijing Industrial Design Center (BIDC), were delighted because by now Taiwan and China rank among the up-and-coming nations in the red dot design award. And this year they will again attempt to successfully maintain their country’s position in the competition.
The red dot design award as a performance indicator is increasingly gaining influence in Asia: “More and more Asian companies have realised that they have a chance on the international market only if they respond with highest design quality to their competitors. The results have convinced our red dot jury beyond doubt: Asia is the market of the future”, says design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award. “The keen participation in the competition of - for example - the Taiwanese shows us that the weighting within the Asian design industry is continually changing thus taking part in an efficient economic competition, which in turn will have positive effects on the world market.”
The strong presence of continuously good design products from Asia demonstrates the importance of global comparison for international positioning: “The results of the red dot design award are clearly indicating where the creative potential of the future is to be found”, says Zec.
Different red dot projects such as the special exhibition „red dot meets creative asia“ in Shenzhen, “Designing Success! – red dot in China” at the “Third China International Industrial Design Expo” in Shunde, and, most recently, the exclusive exhibition marking the opening of the new Design School of the Hong Kong Design Institute are part of the design promotion in Asia with which red dot aims to advance design as a commercial success factor and to further communication between international, design-oriented companies and the Chinese economy.
