Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016
Audience interaction as part of successful channel branding
Last year, the new design of the television station France 4 was honoured with the Red Dot: Grand Prix in the category film & animation. The advertising agency Gédéon realigned the entertainment channel for music, movies, series and art formats as a true cross-media platform while setting a focos on the interaction with the audience.

International design experts select the best design concepts
The basis of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2016 is formed by the experts of the Red Dot jury. This year, it is comprised of 20 internationally recognised designers, professors, specialised journalists and publishers. Thanks to their backgrounds and experiences, the jury members can especially appreciate the cultural characteristics of design.

From 22 April 2016, “World’s Best Communication Design 2015/2016 – Taiwanese and international highlights of the Red Dot Award” will show a selection of international projects that were successful in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2015.

Blackmagic Industrial Design Team is Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2016
In 2016, the Red Dot: Design Team of the Year will travel half way around the globe to receive the “Radius” challenge cup in Essen, Germany. Blackmagic Industrial Design Team led by Simon Kidd from Australia is to receive the highest honorary title of the Red Dot Design Award.

With around 5,000 entries from more than 50 countries each year, the Red Dot Award is one of the world’s largest international product competitions. The registration phase for 2016 is in full swing, and the jury members have already been chosen. The about 40 experts from all over the globe will converge in the Ruhr region at the end of February to make up the Red Dot jury. These include ICE and Transrapid designer Alexander Neumeister, fashion icon Jimmy Choo and automotive design legend Chris Bangle.

From 30 January until 5 February 2016, visitors discover the exhibition „15 – A review of the year’s events in posters” (15 – Ein Jahresrückblick in Plakaten) in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen. Political happenings and personal experiences had a formative influence on the year 2015. In the exhibition, award-winning designers deal with this in a visual way. ll of the works will be sold in a limited edition. For domestic and abroad projects, the proceeds go to UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe.

On the evening of 21 January 2016, the exhibition “Tõnis Käo: ‘Design as Experiment’, Retrospective” opened in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany. It is the first joint project of the Folkwang University of the Arts and the Red Dot Design Museum. Already in 2014, the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design in Tallinn had curated the exhibition. It shows an overview of the life’s work of Tõnis Käo, who is regarded as a pioneer in system design.
