Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015
In search of good design and innovations
Since the beginning of November the registration phase for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 has been running. The competition, which origins date back to 1954, is one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design competitions. Manufacturers and designers from more than 75 countries take part. Chosen by an independent and renowned jury, the award increases the visibility of designers and companies, brands and products. The use of the Red Dot label is exclusively reserved for the winners of the competition.

Best of Belgian Design
From 28 October 2014 until 25 January 2015, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents the special exhibition “Light & Shape: Best of Belgian Design”. From ultra-light luggage collection to unusual lamps: the exemplary selection of products from various living environments presents a cross-section of the current Belgian design standard. Touching and testing most of the exhibits is explicitly allowed, since outstanding design quality becomes apparent only in use.

Event: Every product tells a story
Good products do not appear from nowhere. In the beginning, there always is an idea which turns into the final product after a long development process and countless drafts. But where do these ideas come from and how do designers get their motivation? The exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story”, which can be visited from 28 November 2014 until 31 May 2015 in the Hong Kong Design Institute, explores this question in detail.

Taiwanese Design Faces
A special exhibition which focuses on the creative minds behind award-winning designs is presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei from 13 November 2014 – 29 March 2015. “Taiwanese Design Faces” tells stories – about five Taiwanese designers. The presentation introduces the people who create innovative products, convince manufacturers to produce these, and who give advice and support during the whole development process, from the idea to the finished good.

The International Yearbook Communication Design 2014/2015
Every year, the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design are honoured and their works are published in an extensive reference book – for eternity. The two-volume International Yearbook Communication Design 2014/2015 is hot off the press and gives an overview of the status quo of current communication design.

The Red Dot Design Yearbook 2014/2015 is a compilation of the three individual volumes Living, Doing & Working, in order to present the entire spectrum of innovative products new features from all sectors of product design. All of the approximately 1,300 products from all over the world have been distinguished by an independent jury of experts in the course of the Red Dot Award. The Yearbook reflects these design accomplishments impressively in illustrations and text.

On 7 July, the design world came together in Essen to celebrate the winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014. More than 1,200 international guests arrived at the glamorous awards ceremony in the Aalto-Theater. At the subsequent Designers’ Night they celebrated until the small hours of the morning. The last guests from business, design and media left the Red Dot Design Museum on the Zollverein World Heritage Site at 5:39 a.m.

The Red Dot Gala is coming up: Today, the winners of this year`s Red Dot Award: Product Design will be celebrated for their creative projects. When Prof. Dr. Peter Zec welcomes the laureates and representatives from the fields of economy, politics and the media, the Aalto-Theater will be filled up to the last seat. Even the Designers’ Night, which takes places afterwards in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, is already sold out. Design enthusiasts that cannot join this evening, are invited to follow the highlight of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014 via social media coverage.

From 8 July until 3 August 2014, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents two special exhibitions at the same time. On Sunday, 13 July 2014, visitors can explore “Design on Stage” and “People Driven” in the course of a public tour from 3-4.30 p.m. On three floors, the house presents what is state-of-the-art in international product design.

On Monday 7 July, the laureates of the Red Dot Award will be introduced. From the 4,815 products entered, the jury for the internationally renowned design award selected outstanding automobiles, leisure products, professional devices and consumer electronics. These will all be on show after the celebratory Red Dot Gala: Around 1,500 designers, entrepreneurs and media representatives from all continents will celebrate and present the winning products at the after-show party in the Red Dot Design Museum, the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design.
