The Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2017 offers designers, companies and universities from all over the world the opportunity to enter their product visions and put their whole creative potential to the test. The “Standard” submission phase runs until 22 March.

At the heart of the Red Dot Award: Product Design is its jury. Soon, some 40 recognised experts from around the world will gather again in order to test, discuss and assess every single entry in an evaluation process lasting several days. Part of the panel in 2017 will be Gordon Bruce again.

Red Dot Design Ranking 2016 for design concepts

The Red Dot Institute filters the results of the Red Dot Design Award according to different criteria and creates, among others, rankings. Annually, it releases the Red Dot Design Ranking, honouring the leading organisations who have continuously invested in design and in innovation. The Red Dot Design Ranking 2016 for design concepts recognises the top companies, design studios and universities with unceasing pursuance towards design excellence.

Red Dot Award: Product Design

Outstanding design and its makers: the A’tolan House

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects of high design quality. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of all entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. The Create + Think Design Studio was awarded this distinction for the Interior Design of the A’tolan House.

Winners‘ Benefits: Award-winning products are presented in the Red Dot App

The registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 runs only until 8 February. The laureates use the winner label for their communications and profit from further “Winners‘ Benefits”, among others the presentation of the award-winning products in the Red Dot App.

“Under the Sign of the Circle” presents Red Dot awarded innovations from Japan

Entitled “Under the Sign of the Circle”, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents an exhibition of Japanese products until 19 March 2017. From electronic drums to extravagant packaging to origami chair: Around 100 exhibits invite visitors to discover Japanese design.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects with high quality design. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of around 5,200 entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. It goes to the best products of a category, among them the lamp “Mesh”. Red Dot asked the jury what they particularly appreciated about the design of this lamp, and talked to the designer Francisco Gomez Paz.

The Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2016 has been chosen: Serviceplan has won the day in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design. With its innovative campaigns, this partner-led agency proved to be the strongest service provider as demonstrated by its 11 Red Dot and five Red Dot: Best of the Best awards in this year’s competition.

On 4 November 2016, the best of the best of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design will receive their trophies on stage of the Konzerthaus Berlin for their outstanding communication campaigns. It remains exciting: Only on the evening of the awarding ceremony it is announced, who will receive a Red Dot: Grand Prix. This year’s winners include BBDO Berlin, Lenovo and Mister Spex.


“Making a Difference / A Difference in Making” – 3D Printing exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen

Until 30 October 2016, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents the exhibition “Making a Difference / A Difference in Making”. The collection brings together pioneering 3D-printed works of art, design, engineering and science. The exhibition was curated by Marta Malé-Alemany, architect and recognized researcher in the field of digital fabrication technologies, and produced by Materialise, a 3D printing company based in Belgium.

On 22 September 2016, the highlight of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept was celebrated – the Red Dot Gala. In a glamorous atmosphere, the winners of the Red Dot: Best of the Best and the Red Dot: Luminary were honoured on the stage and catwalk of the Red Dot Design Museum Singapore. Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, and Ken Koo, President of Red Dot Asia handed over the trophies to the proud laureates.
