Red Dot Award: Product Design Ranking 2015
The jury is in place!
The Red Dot jury comprises about 40 design experts of international repute. A particularly distinguished panel has been appointed in this anniversary year of 2015. One example is Werner Aisslinger, who became world famous with his mobile living space, “Loft Cube”. Aisslinger’s products feature in the Museum of Modern Art, New York, as do those of Red Dot jury member Hans Ehrich, the “Grand Seigneur” of Swedish design culture. Fashion and shoe designer Datuk’ Professor Jimmy Choo OBE, a superstar on the international design scene, will once again act as a juror for the “Fashion, lifestyle and accessories” category.

“To explore new issues and topics in design, to integrate design thinking, and to entrust high regard to quality of communication...” Prof. Kuan Cheng Neng, member of the design concept award jury kicks off the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2015 by articulating what he is looking forward to for the coming contest. Right now, up-and-coming talents, designers, companies and universities from all over the world have the opportunity to enter their design visions in the competition and put their whole creative potential to the test.

International communication design in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen
Smart apps, impressing posters or attention-attracting advertising films – all communication works which are on show in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, Germany, until 3 May 2015 have one thing in common: their award-winning design. The special exhibition “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014” presents the latest Red Dot awarded creative achievements from around the globe.

Taiwanese Design Faces
A special exhibition which focuses on the creative minds behind award-winning designs is presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei until 29 March 2015. “Taiwanese Design Faces” tells stories – about five Taiwanese designers. The presentation introduces the people who create innovative products, convince manufacturers to produce these, and who give advice and support during the whole development process, from the idea to the finished good.

Designs with a story – in the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story”
The American entrepreneur Henry Ford once said: “Every object tells a story, if you know how to read it.” Inspired by this quote, the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story” grants exciting peeks behind the scenes of design and shows how award-winning design is characterised. Until 31 May 2015, visitors of the HKDI Gallery in Hong Kong can experience the exemplarily selection of designs from various living environments and discover what is hidden under the surface.

Last year, Red Dot took over Berlin for a whole three days, accompanied by the capital city’s TV channel TV Berlin. More than 1,200 guests from all over the world came together in the creative metropolis of Berlin on 24 October to celebrate the competition winners at the Red Dot Gala and the subsequent Designers’ Night.

The Red Dot stands for top achievements in design all over the world. The sought-after seal of quality is awarded to companies that bring products to the market which set global standards in terms of their attractive design, ease of use and functionality. For 60 years now, these products have been selected each year by a jury of independent design experts.

Every year, the Red Dot Award: Product Design, which is organised in Germany, registers thousands of submissions from all around the world. Its international jury of 40 members is able to consciously assess the special intercultural aspects of design. Thus, the commitment of independent, renowned experts for product quality is always necessary. This year, the German material expert Dr. Sascha Peters is in the jury for the first time. He will mainly bring in his expertise in the new product category “Materials and surfaces”.

At the end of February, the Munich Creative Business Week will turn the Bavarian capital into a creative venue for international designers and companies. In the exhibition “Formosa Forms”, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, Germany, will present innovative product and communication designs which document contemporary Taiwanese design developments. The vernissage of the exhibition, which was commissioned by the Taiwan Design Center, will take place at the Alte Kongresshalle München on 24 February 2015, 11 p.m.
