On 27 January, the regular registration phase for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 will end: Designers, brands and manufacturers from all continents are submitting thousands of entries right now. An international jury of independent design experts evaluates every product and the best achievements are awarded with the sought-after “Red Dot” quality seal.

The most successful seating furniture manufacturers
Several thousands of current products are assessed every year as part of the Red Dot Award. The competition, which has been tracking down the best designs for 60 years now, traditionally receives a particularly large number of entries in the “Living rooms” and “Interior design” categories. On the occasion of the largest German interiors show, IMM Cologne, the Red Dot Award: Product Design is publishing an industry-specific ranking that provides information on the most successful seating furniture manufacturers.

“To explore new issues and topics in design, to integrate design thinking, and to entrust high regard to quality of communication...” Prof. Kuan Cheng Neng, member of the design concept award jury kicks off the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2015 by articulating what he is looking forward to for the coming contest. Right now, up-and-coming talents, designers, companies and universities from all over the world have the opportunity to enter their design visions in the competition and put their whole creative potential to the test.

Designs with a story – in the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story”
The American entrepreneur Henry Ford once said: “Every object tells a story, if you know how to read it.” Inspired by this quote, the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story” grants exciting peeks behind the scenes of design and shows how award-winning design is characterised. Until 31 May 2015, visitors of the HKDI Gallery in Hong Kong can experience the exemplarily selection of designs from various living environments and discover what is hidden under the surface.

Taiwanese Design Faces
A special exhibition which focuses on the creative minds behind award-winning designs is presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei until 29 March 2015. “Taiwanese Design Faces” tells stories – about five Taiwanese designers. The presentation introduces the people who create innovative products, convince manufacturers to produce these, and who give advice and support during the whole development process, from the idea to the finished good.

On 24 October 2014, the Red Dot, one of the most renowned accolades of the communication design scene, was awarded in Berlin. The highlight of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design in the metropolis of creativity was exciting until the end: only at the Red Dot Gala it was announced, who received the price for the best talent endowed with 10,000 Euros and which communication design was honoured with the Red Dot: Grand Prix. 13 top communication works impressed as the best of their category and were therefore presented with the highest individual award of the competition.

“Communication Design” is a broad term. It describes the variety of all visual, graphical and written digital and printing works. The internationally most successful makers of these media annually meet in Berlin: on 24 October 2014, some of the most sought-after prizes of the world of creativity will be awarded in the glamorous Konzerthaus Berlin, located at the Gendarmenmarkt. The Red Dot Gala attracts designers from all continents.

It’s that time of year again - October 24th, the design industry will gather to celebrate the winners of the annual Red Dot Design Awards, honoring the best and brightest individuals and campaigns in international design. This year the ultimate prize for companies – “Red Dot: Client of the Year” – is awarded to PepsiCo for the corporation’s design ethos and output in 2014. PepsiCo garners nine awards total and marks the first time in Red Dot history that the “Red Dot: Client of the Year” designation will go to a non-automotive company.

Contemporary 3D applications, photo-realistic surroundings and new developments such as the Oculus Rift glasses are unthinkable without the innovative energy of game makers. Communication and advertising professionals are increasingly becoming aware of the potential of video games, but the pixel world is virgin territory for many, even technically well-versed designers, PR consultants and marketing managers. On 23 October 2014, “Define Game Design”, a conference with high-profile industry specialists, will set out to shed light on the state of play and will present technical and economic opportunities.

7,096 projects entered, 569 Red Dot awards and 101 times Red Dot: Best of the Best – those are the milestones of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014. On 24 October, this year’s winners will be honoured at the Red Dot Gala in front of an international audience. One agency in particular has a lot to celebrate this year: the Scholz & Friends Group receives the honorary title “Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2014”.
