Red Dot in China 2016
From 29 October until 1 November 2016, Red Dot brings the world of design to the International Conference and Exhibition Center of the South-East-Chinese metropolis Xiamen: For the fifth time in a row, Red Dot is the major partner and trade fair organiser of the Xiamen International Design Week (XIDW). In an interview, Red Dot CEO Professor Dr. Peter Zec gives insights into the successful fair and his talks about his personal highlight.

Application phase 2017 begins
From 24 October 2016 onwards, designers and manufacturers can enter their products for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 – one of the largest product competitions in the world. For more than 60 years, it has offered a fair and independent design benchmark.
Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2016
The Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2016 has been chosen: Serviceplan has won the day in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design. With its innovative campaigns, this partner-led agency proved to be the strongest service provider as demonstrated by its 11 Red Dot and five Red Dot: Best of the Best awards in this year’s competition.

“La valeur du design”: Red Dot exhibition opened in France
On Wednesday, 14 September 2016, “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) opened in St. Etienne, France. Until 8 January 2017, Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world inform visitors of the Cité du Design about the merits and value of good design.

The best products from 2016
The Red Dot Design Museum Singapore features a new collection of the latest innovations from this year’s Red Dot Award: Product Design. The exhibition showcases product solutions with refined technology, improved combination of materials and increased emphasis on users’ comfort and convenience. The exclusive presentation runs until 30 November 2016.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects with high quality design. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of around 5,200 entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. It goes to the best products of a category, among them the drone Xplorer. Red Dot asked the jury what they particularly appreciated about the design of this drone, and talked to the designers Huang Xinshui and Li Mulin.

In St. Etienne, France, a new exhibition will present the merits and value of good design – and it will prove that the term goes way beyond the surface. From 15 September 2016 until 8 January 2017, “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) will show Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world at the Cité du Design.

The IFA is the world’s leading fair for consumer electronics and home appliances. On an area of 150,000 square metres, about 1,600 exhibitors presented more than 10,000 innovations this year. Also a Red Dot team was on site: to meet laureates of the Red Dot Award: Product Design and discover the newest trends and developments. The keynote “Consumer experience in the connected kitchen” by Dr. Karsten Ottenberg, CEO BSH Hausgeräte, granted insights into current product worlds and the technologies of tomorrow. In general, the terms “smart” and “connectivity” were fundamental keywords on the Berlin fair.

The winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016 are set. From thousands of entries, the jury has chosen the best communication performances of the year. In a total of 21 categories, designers from all over the world could demonstrate their talent. Among others, the agency 22quadrat, the Beetroot Design Group as well as the artist Yadegar Asisi can be glad about a distinction with the Red Dot label.
