From 29 October until 1 November 2016, Red Dot brings the world of design to the International Conference and Exhibition Center of the South-East-Chinese metropolis Xiamen: For the fifth time in a row, Red Dot is the major partner and trade fair organiser of the Xiamen International Design Week (XIDW).

The Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany will present the exhibition “Making a Difference / A Difference in Making” from September 27 to October 30, 2016. The collection brings together pioneering 3D-printed works of art, design, engineering and science. The exhibition is curated by Marta Malé-Alemany, architect and recognized researcher in the field of digital fabrication technologies, and produced by Materialise, a 3D printing company based in Belgium.


Lord Foster Receives Order of Merit

On 18 January 2010, British star architect Lord Foster was awarded the Knight Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Issued to him in London by the German Ambassador Georg Boomgaarden, the Order of Merit was given to him for his outstanding achievements in architecture in Germany and around the world.

Young designers had the chance to register for a total of 50 free registrations for the upcoming red dot award: product design 2010. Even though this campaign only ran for 24 hours on the red dot website, almost 150 creative professionals from 24 nations applied, among them Argentina, New Zealand and Colombia. Due to the large response the winners of the 50 registrations had to be decided by drawing lots.

The UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site Zeche Zollverein saw the festive inauguration of the European Capital of Culture in the year 2010 by the German President Horst Koehler on Saturday. Weathering the storm “Daisy” which swept over the Ruhr area with freezing temperatures and heavy snowfalls, about 100,000 people celebrated until the early morning hours.
