Manufacturers and designers from 54 countries entered their current product innovations in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017. 39 experts from all over the world convened in Essen to assess each individual object live and in situ in a process spanning several days.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design honours projects of high design quality. Among the works which received a Red Dot: Best of the Best, the jury awards the Red Dot: Grand Prix. In 2016, the top individual award was granted to “The Real Time Brand”, designed by Grey Germany/KW43 Branddesign and Maruri Grey.

The Red Dot Design Ranking for design concepts tracks and measures the success of an organisation in producing exciting new design concepts over a period of time. The Red Dot jury of 21 international design experts awarded five institutions with the Red Dot: Best of the Best, in recognition of the outstanding effort and quality designs, one of them is "ENSCI - Les Ateliers".

Young designers had the chance to register for a total of 50 free registrations for the red dot award: product design 2011. Even though this campaign only ran for 24 hours on the red dot website, almost 180 creative professionals from almost 40 nations applied, among them Argentina, New Zealand and Colombia.

For the nominees for the “red dot: junior prize” for fledgling designers, which comes with 10,000 euros prize-money, the competition remained full of suspense until the very last second, because the winner was not announced until the red dot gala. The promotional film “Typewriter” by Andreas Roth (Baden-Württemberg Film Academy, commissioned by the International Society for Human Rights) deals with the freedom of expression and impressed the jury with its forceful as well as depressing dramatic composition.

The best in international communication design came together in the red dot design museum in Essen yesterday in order to honour the award-winners of this year’s “red dot award: communication design”. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and host of the evening, welcomed some 900 creative professionals and representatives from the media, business and culture to the awards presentation and the ensuing vernissage and red dot after show party. A special highlight was the appearance of a true creativity guru who has been providing the best entertainment for 50 years: Legendary TV host Frank Elstner honoured the “red dot: agency of the year”, BBDO Germany, with a laudatory speech and received great applause from the enthusiastic audience.
