Of all the awards given in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design, there is one that stands out: the title of honour “Red Dot: Brand of the Year”, which this year goes to German automotive firm Audi.

Architect and red dot juror Professor Ben van Berkel was selected to design the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam in 1990 and co-founded UNStudio in 1998. He realised projects such as the Moebius House (1993/1998), the Museum Het Valkhof (1998) as well as the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart (2006). His Arnhem Central Transfer Terminal is scheduled for completion in 2013. Ben van Berkel has taught at Princeton, Columbia University and the Berlage Institute, among others. He is currently professor and Dean of the Architecture Department at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and has co-authored a significant number of essays and monographs.

From 9-12 October 2012, only few days after the traffic on the Autobahn 40 in Essen – which has completely been closed for months – is rolling again, Czech car manufacturer ŠKODA invites more than 100 journalists from the car trade press to the Ruhr Area. In the red dot design museum, the new compact saloon “Rapid” will officially be presented to representatives of the press, radio broadcasting, TV and online media.

Together with the Province of Limburg, the city of Kerkrade and the Discovery Center Continium, red dot signed a memorandum of understanding for the project “Creative City”. In front of the building of the Discovery Center Continium, on the Museumsplein in Kerkrade, the red dot design laboratory as well as an “Earth Theater” will strengthen the creative industry in the Province of Limburg in the future. Highly symbolic, the delegation sprayed a “red dot” on the forecourt and marked exactly the spot, where the institutions are to be erected.
